It’s a takeover of Humpty-Hump proportions: Digital Underground, best-known for their 1989 breakthrough first single, “The Humpty Dance,” has commandeered Myxer’s home page to promote their new single (and free ringtone), “Children of the Sun.” It’s fresh from D.U.’s latest album, Cuz A D.U. Party Don’t Stop, and it’s another salute to the band’s 1970s funk-inspired roots.

Now if you’re too young to remember “The Humpty Dance” and the brilliant debut of D.U., get your learn on: Born in the late 80’s, while hip-hop was consumed by the hardcore, noisy political rap of Public Enemy and the gangsta rap of N.W.A., Digital Underground sneaked out of Oakland with their bizarre, funky homage to Parliament-Funkadelic.

The group built most of their music from P-Funk samples and developed a similarly weird sense of style and humor. Most-known in the bunch is Humpty Hump — a ridiculous comical figure with a Groucho Marx nose and glasses and a goofy, stuttering voice — is the most famous, especially since he was immortalized on their breakthrough single, “The Humpty Dance.”

According to Hollyscoop, Wahlberg had this to say about the skit: “Someone showed it to me on YouTube. It wasn’t like Tina Fey doing Sarah Palin, that’s for sure. And Saturday Night Live hasn’t been funny for a long time. They’ve asked me to do the show a ton of times. I used to watch it when Eddie Murphy was there and Joe Piscopo and Bill Murray. I don’t even know who’s on the show now.”

Yeeouch. While the actor didn’t think SNL’s take on his personality was very funny, the comedians did have something to work from. Dig this clip from a Wahlberg movie in which his character talks … to a plant.

So there ya go. It’s another example of someone living in the limelight (which leaves them wide open to parody) and getting fussy with fellow entertainers. Dude. You talked to a frickin’ plant. What’d you expect?

Here we have footage from a Japanese television program, broadcasting what we assume to be a parent’s vidcam footage. Watch the pretty little girl brush her hair. Then watch what happens in the mirror moments later. Real? Fake? Who cares … it’s eerie as hell, which is why we love it.
