It’s like Opposite Day for your tongue!

miracle berriesThink Geek, our favorite online store to buy cool gadgets, nerdy T-shirts, office toys, doomsday devices, caffeinated products, Wi-Fi detector shirts (which Apple co-founder Steve “the Woz” Wozniak is fond of wearing) and oh so much more, has a new product that we really wanna try. It’s called “Miracle Fruit.”

Here’s the gist: the product is a tablet that, once dissolved on the tongue, makes sour and bitter foods taste sweet. The Think Geek overlords themselves tested the stuff and the consensus was that it worked as advertised. They’re probably still craving mustard sandwiches.

How do “Miracle Fruits” work? Think Geek says: “The truth is, science doesn’t completely know (it has something to do with the protein miraculin that bonds to your taste buds, but the exact cause is still a mystery). But the berries work, and it’s a miracle.”

If you’re interested in experiencing your own Mirror Universe taste-test fest — and have 20 bucks to spend — head on over and snag some. Just don’t blame MINE if the things wear off while you’re dining on that lemon-and-salt sandwich.

  1. Oh good, since buying a shippment of the actual berries is $90 plus handling, this may finally net me some without killing my wallet. I’m buying it RIGHT NOW.

  2. [Purchased. I'll let you know if they live up to the hype.]

  3. Heee! Please do keep us in the loop, Rachel! We want a review!

  4. Oddly enough, I’d just ordered some of these tablets directly from a distributor in the UK (about $3 cheaper than Thinkgeek has them, but I’m sure I got screwed on shipping). Here’s hoping they get here before my birthday on Sunday, thinking of holding a taste-tripping party with my friends to celebrate it if they arrive in time. :D
I’ll be sure to pop in and let you know how it goes. :)

  5. sweet!

    Ahem.

This is like that experiment at epcot here you hold on to two different bars for a minute, a warm one in your left hand and a cold one in your right, and then you move them both to a room-temp bar in the middle. The hand that was on the warm bar previously suddenly feels really cold, and the other feels really hot.

Now if they could make a nose insert that makes BO smell like flowers, my wife would be all set!

  6. Finally got my Miracle Berry Pills in today.. haven’t tried them yet, want to see if I can set up a proper tasting, get some lemons, pickles, cheeses and stuff, and set up my video camera.. I’ll let you all know how it goes! :D

  7. Mine came Saturday, but I didn’t try them yet either. I must go buy some lemons, limes, cream cheese, and sour cream, apparently, among other things. I’ve been searching the web to see what tastes best.
